  • Not sure about that one, it looks a bit like interference, but it's difficult to tell from your screen grab. Is it present 24/7 ? Can you remind me of your KiWi URL so that I can take a listen myself ? Regards, Martin - G8JNJ
  • I use WinSCP, connect to the KiWi and simply swap dx.json files between my desktop pc and the KiWi as required. That's all that is required, just refresh your browser session to see the new entries. Regards, Martin - G8JNJ
  • @linkfanel "interesting idea! But to begin with, do you really need to time out sessions as long as there is still one public slot available? Then only when all public slots are full would it need to start enforcing the timeout." Yes th…
  • "While doing this tetsing i noted that very high signal levels caused the kiwi to act odd. Based upon that, I reduced the level applied to to my 3 kiwis here by 3 dB and now do not see the same loss of birds that I was seeing overtime. I feed a…
  • Hi Ron, OK, I think you are suffering from some close in near field measurement issues. The problem is that close to the source the E Field and H field are not unified. http://www.rfcafe.com/references/electrical/images2/wave-impedance-measures-r…
  • Hi Ron, That doesn't look correct. What did you use as the signal source and what was the test setup ? Regards, Martin - G8JNJ
  • Hi Dave, I've also thought that at times the military don't seem to have particularly good frequency co-ordination. However they do have a fairly comprehensive frequency management systems. NATO has it's Frequency Management Sub-Committee based in…
  • @Hugobmf I have just tried editing and saving a configuration on the admin pages and it worked OK for me running v1.216 When you enter a new value in to a text box, and then press 'enter', do you see the text box turn green for a short period ? …
  • Looks like the two single phase feeds have got isolating links mounted on the metal cross bracket. I wonder if that has got some insulation breaking down ? The rest looks fairly clean. Regards, Martin - G8JNJ
  • Hi Stig, At first I thought it bay just have been something simple like having to specify minus values for the frequency limits, as the are below the carrier frequency when using LSB. For example if you type 7255/-2600,-300 directly into the freq…
  • Hi Stu, OK - Arrghhh SkyQ they used to ship the set top boxes with the data over the mains supply enabled by default, I think they have now changed it to off, but it's still not good. He would probably not be happy if his internet dropped out ever…
  • @Powernumpty I cant't quite tell from your posted screen grab but that looks like it could be VDSL interference from the broadband over copper pone lines. If you look at the frequency plan for VDSL in this information leaflet http://rsgb.org/main…
  • Oh dear, the noise is quite bad. Power lines are particuarly problematic as the noise can be transmitted over a very wide area some considerable distance from the actual source. If it is arcing you should be able to hear it at the pole (if it is a…
  • Should have said, these are the bursts centered on 4785KHz See http://www.hfindustry.com/meetings_presentations/presentation_materials/2017_sep_hfia/presentations/THALES_HFXL_HFIAsept2017_Presentation_final2_Bernier.pdf Regards, Martin - G8JNJ
  • Hi Dave, I've just managed to perform four runs using different KiWi's (fortunately Emerald was available. I used the widest I/Q filter bandwidth to straddle two sets of databursts that had no other transmissions at low level in the background. T…
  • Hmmm, not much out that way. I know St Eval and somewhere in France had been used as test sites, but Blandford and Southwick (Portsmouth) are other possibilities. Regards, Martin - G8JNJ
  • Hmm, it would seem that times have changed since we used to buy bucket loads of DC injectors at about $2.50 USD each. They now seem to be retailing for about $20 USD, which is quite a markup. Looks like currently the cheapest option is a bias tee f…
  • Yes bias tee is the correct name, but they tend to cost more than the 'satellite tv dc injectors' which perform the same function. The cheap ones made in China sell for just a few $ and work perfectly OK in this application. If you buy a bias tee fr…
  • Looking through a selection of PCTEL 40dB antenna specs they say typically less than 40mA, but can be up to 60mA. I think this may be the problem, if the current limit (required to prevent damage if the GPS antenna or coax becomes short circuit) in…
  • I just checked the KiWi GPS power circuit. It supplies 3.3v and will current limit at 50mA. So if your antenna requires a 5v supply or draws anything close to 50mA, that may be the problem. Regards, Martin - G8JNJ
  • Check the current draw of the PCTEL antenna and also its specified operating voltage. You may have to power it from a separate bias tee if the KiWi can't deliver sufficient voltage or current. Regards, Martin - G8JNJ
  • Hi Dave, See http://forum.kiwisdr.com/discussion/comment/2631#Comment_2631 NVIS makes a real mess of TDoA on the LF bands. You may have to try TDoA at a few different times if day, before you find stable propagation. Regards, Martin
  • "I wonder if this is still a patch-type antenna but with a bit of a ground plane. Nice that the coax looks to be better than RG174." Most of the cheap Chinese 'marine' GPS antennas I looked at were basically patch types and perhaps had an…
  • It's worth noting that four more Galileo satellites (23-26) were launched on Wednesday 25 July 2018 and are currently being commissioned. Regards, Martin - G8JNJ
  • Max gain systems also sell heavy wall telescoping GRP tube ( I think they may supply MFJ) https://mgs4u.com/fiberglass-push-up-masts/#masts However I'm not sure that the support needs to be non-conductive, as the coax is anyway. If you connect the…
  • -40dB should be fine. So I think we now have to look for something else. Regards, Martin - G8JNJ
  • Hi Dave, There has been speculation on the UDXF@groups.io forum that it's associated with test transmissions from the Frankfurt area associated with High Frequency Financial Trading. It's also been heard just below 15MHz and moves around a bit. If…
  • Hi Clint, Interesting reading, and I 100% agree, as it's pretty much what I'm doing too. I use a genuine broadband antenna, the TC2M, https://www.tc2m.info/TC2M%20HF%20Vertical%20G8JNJ.pdf I don't have the luxury of selective resonances on the a…
  • @Lonecrow "That diagram there - the chokes are "as needed" right? Or do you need 2 for sure? Those brown lines above the "ground" symbol. What are they? Thinking of how I could ground coax without making another cut."…
  • @Lonecrow Send me a private email. martinmail2007-swuksdr@yahoo.com Regards, Martin - G8JNJ
