I'm quite pleased with this one, especially as it's an HF signal and there are not that many suitably placed KiWi's. It's a Russian CIS-12 signal on 11175KHz. (Image) Regards, Martin - G8JNJ

Hi John, Would it be possible to load up the list of KiWi's and have an option so that it will wait until all the listed SDR's are available for TDoA use then automatically trigger the sampling ? This would save a lot of hassle waiting for specifi…

Hi Christoph, "@G8JNJ: I will have to think how this can be done (figure of merit per KiwiSDR)." Thanks for considering the suggestion. I think it may also help towards implementing any further automation of the overall process and all…

The "KiwiNNN" IDs need to get replaced by something else which is constant and guaranteed unique How about using the QRA locator ? Perhaps with a/1 /2/ 3/ ect. if the locator square is shared ? Regards, Martin - G8JNJ

Hi Christoph & John, Would it be possible to provide some sort of numerical 'figure of merit' or percentage confidence estimate of the TDoA result, and contribution per KiWi. I realise that the size of the plot performs this function, but som…

Hi, I also agree with Ben, it would be useful to be able to generate the URL from the TDoA extension so that it's easy to cut and paste if you wish to repeat the run. Would it also be possible to generate a Lat & Long value for the TDoA soluti…

Hi John, When using my own KiWi for TDoA I choose my SDR, then change the port number in the list to that of my 'Private' KiWi on 8077. This allows me to use my second KiWi without tying up the main 'Public' one. It's worked well up until today, …

Hi Christoph & John, I've updated to v1.204 and the new maps are great :-) However the TDoA plots seem to be miles out ? I've tried repeating several of the signals with known locations I'd tried over the past few days and none of them seem t…

Hi, Yes you are correct.. It did work correctly, but now my local and UTC are the same, even though it states British Summer Time, which is currently UTC +1. Regards, Martin - G8JNJ

Hi John, On-rereading the information on the https://www.the-hug.co.uk/opus2516.html website. I now see that all it does is plot the great circle paths from the bearings that have been typed in. It's just a crude method to manually transfer and …

Hi John, Thanks for the latest updates, I'm having great fun :-) Some further observations / suggestions. The basic TDoA is working extremely well. My main problems are mostly associated with choosing the best KiWis to use. When I double click…

Hi John, Very interesting. I was aware of the 24 RMDF TDoA sites in the UK covering 20MHz to 6GHz (it was mentioned previously on this forum with a link to a video) http://forum.kiwisdr.com/discussion/940/direction-finding-and-linking-existing-kiw…

Hi Christoph, Just a bit more feedback. I recently used the TDoA extension to ID the likely source of a FSK signal that was intruding into the 40m Amateur band. This had been reported to the UK regulator OFCOM and also the German regulator. I had…

Hi John, Yes a stored cookie would be good. How about storing the last used list of KiWi's for each quick map zoom region ? My thinking is that if folks are trying to locate a 'mystery' signal they would probably want to check out different areas…

Updated the How To in order to incorporate more information

Some further notes that may help folks who are trying to use this extension. There are still quite a few bugs to be sorted out, but I have been able to get very accurate locations, certainly close enough to be able to find the TX site on Google Ear…

Hi John, The new zoom arrangement is a bit problematic if you are trying to perform a first 'fix' on the HF bands when you need to use KiWi's that are some distance away from the likely source and the map is zoomed out to show a 1/2 world view. Al…

"For example if the kiwirecorder run launched by the kiwisdr.com server doesn't act as expected there is no timeout detection." Maybe it should just time out after say 40 seconds on the basis that if it's not complete by then, it isn't go…

Yes, I tried that but it doesn't work for me, I still can't enter anything towards the top, even if I click on the top entry box to try and select it. Regards, Martin - G8JNJ

Hi John, A couple of problems using Chrome on Win7 Pro 64 bit. First another variation on the list filling from the bottom (Image) Second, I've found that once I've run and completed a TDoA session, I have to refresh the browser and open the T…

Hi John, Here's a picture (Image) I think the sampling period maybe either needs to time out or a stop button should be added ? Sometimes it just continues and the only way to stop it is to close the extension and restart it. Likewise sometim…

Hi John, Yes, I am using the 'scissors' but sometimes the list still filled from near the bottom. Some good successes today with testing using the UK Volmet transmissions on 5450KHz and 11254KHz both of which seem to be transmitting from Inskip h…

Hi John, I've had a lot of fun today playing with the TDoA extension. A couple of observations I'm not sure if the recordings default to I/Q mode if another mode is selected on the KiWi but if it they don't maybe it should be forced when the TDoA…

Hi John, Excellent and very timely :-) There is currently a problem with a military FSK signal in the 40m amateur band that folks have been trying to ID. I ran a TDoA on it this morning and was able to narrow down the likely transmitter site fairl…

Hi linkz, I'm still getting lots of Ubuntu error messages Exception in thread Thread-3: Traceback (most recent call last): File "/usr/lib/python2.7/threading.py", line 801, in __bootstrap_inner self.run() File "directTDoA…

Hi linkz & Christoph, Thanks for this. I can't do much more until towards the end of this week, but I may well take you up on the offer of help regarding the Linux box. Regards, Martin

A good find. It may be worth trying a different power supply in place of the existing dog fence 'wall wart' before trying anything more complicated. A lot of these supplies have little or no RFI suppression components fitted and may be the source …

Hi Daniel, Those are the notes I have been following and slowly working my way through. I've got the basic map selection and recording to work, after about 6 hours of effort. But now I've got problems with the Octave scripts that need sorting out.…

After a few more hours work I've fixed a lot of the missing parts of the various package installs and sorted out version compatibility issues with various modules, so I can now get the map to display and then capture time stamped I/Q files from the …

Hi, After reading the article I tried installing the Linux version (I'm not a Linux expert). I got so far, but the directTDoA.py installer is trying to use PIL (Python Image Library) which is no longer supported and most folks now seem to be usin…
