A quick question. What does the adc_ov=NNN parameter indicate. I assume it's a cumulative overload count, but over what period and how is it reset ? Regards, Martin

Simon Brown has introduced some interesting concepts in the most recent release of SDR console, which may be of interest to those who have previously commented on the KiWi waterfall and taking snapshots over extended periods of time. https://dk8ok.…

Thanks also from me. The adc_ov line in /status should allow some additional automation of external BC band notch filters which will be very helpful. Regards, Martin

Hi All, Happy New Year I'm reminded of some of my comments in a previous post on a similar subject, which may apply if sharing access or trying to further develop the existing DB and DX tags. http://forum.kiwisdr.com/index.php?p=/discussion/comment…

Personally I've found the existing DX.JSON file to be difficult to export, modify and import back, without seriously messing up the structure, and I've not been able to find a suitable tool to partially automate the process. I agree with the others,…

Some time ago the possibility of bringing the OV indication out onto one of the GPIO pins was also discussed. http://forum.kiwisdr.com/index.php?p=/discussion/comment/6710 I'd still appreciate something like that, in addition to a software derived r…

Hi John, Thanks for fixing that, and all your other hard work behind the scenes, which I also very much appreciate too. Happy Christmas to all, Martin

Same here, tried with a couple of preset TDoA's that I know to have worked in the past.

>I have problems decoding HFDL in KiwiSDR. Simply put, it won't decode anything. However, if I >pipe the audio to PC-HFDL application, it decodes happily. Any idea on why? Your external decoder may be more tolerant to an off-frequency signal o…

Maybe there could be an option to allow an an automatic update of the IP blacklist when the Kiwi updates or reboots ? This would help protect admins who don't maintain their own entries.

Hi Eric, I've had two KiWi BBG's with blown up Ethernet chips. With hindsight I'm now fairly sure in both cases this was due to a nearby lightning surge. Here's the original thread, please read the whole thing, as some of my earlier assumptions were…

Hi Eric, I noticed that addition too, but I assume it's a work in progress. However unlike yourself, I've not been able to load or show any entries, but it's not surprising as my DX JSON file currently has 7400 lines in it, so I've only got myself t…

We have added 34.0.0.0/8 and 35.0.0.0/8 just to be on the safe side until a better fix is found.

All our KiWi's at Weston are being hit too. We have temporarily taken them off until we can blacklist the offenders.

The loop height doesn't matter too much, once it is clear of 'ground clutter' increasing the height brings diminishing returns. 5 or 6ft above the ground is probably OK, but it's more important to place it in an electrically 'quiet' location and to …

Based on some observations made whilst using the extension, but not knowing how HFDL actually works........ I like the map with the active frequencies, I also like the idea of the propagation map. I wonder if the HFDL extension could have an option …

Ah OK, I don't know why that is being stripped off. I've copied it to notepad and saved it as text. When I copy and paste from the new document it's OK. Maybe this forum stripped it ? Thanks, Martin

Hi Tomasz, Thanks for the corrected locations. However I can't open the short links you provided. "Dynamic Link Not Found Short URL (https://goo.gl/maps) not found If you are the developer of this app, ensure that your Dynamic Links domain i…

Joking aside, it's surprising what audio signals there are around us in the DC to 100KHz frequency range. Whilst sitting in the garden, I've observed various bird calls and tried to characterise them using an audio spectrum analyser on my iPad, and …

Who's going to be the first to add bat reception to their KiWi ? Here's a description of the frequencies used by each species if you want to add suitable DX labels :-) If you lived near the sea you could add a hydrophone for whales and dolphins too.

Understood regarding HFDL data corrupting ADS-B tracks. Pity as it seem that the problem is simply that the aggregation sites don't know how to deal with HFDL, as they have only been setup for ADS-B. Personally I'd have thought it would be relativel…

One of my other 'Hobbies' is finding radio sites on Google Earth, and these were not received off-air but copied from some HFDL documents and the co-ordinates converted to something more useful. My best aircraft reception (so far) from my UK locatio…

Hi John, Thanks for the latest update. The message direction tickboxes make a world of difference (for me anyway). I took a look at some of the aircraft calls and co-ordinates on some of the flight tracker sites, and found that a lot of them were no…

Hi John, Excellent it works very well. I'm not an aviation enthusiast, but on monitoring a HFDL channel for a while it seems that the majority of the traffic is the ground stations transmitting what is basically the same uplink information over and …

Contact Everett Sharp N4CY. He hangs out on the Loop Antennas IO group, and usually has a selection of bare PCB's and ready built loop amplifier boards that he can make available. https://groups.io/g/loopantennas Regards, Martin

The Cross Country Wireless loop amplifier is very different to the poor quality MLA30 which uses a video amplifier chip. Another design similar to the Cross Country Wireless is the German Blue Wave https://www.heinzstampfl.ch/en/produkt/blue-wave-ac…

Yes, the diagram is direct from Airspy who market the Youloop. Note that the SWLing post article concentrates on MW reception and not the 0-30MHz spectrum as a whole, which the KiWi sdr covers. The blogger also initially connected his Youloop versio…

The Youloop by itself is not suitable for use with a KiWi SDR, as it does not have sufficient gain. You could add a 20dB pre-amplifier, but to be honest IMHO the Youloop is a good example of marketing hype rather than sound technical performance. In…

Just realised that I missed the historic 17.2 kHz CW Alternator transmissions from SAQ in Sweden earlier today. https://alexander.n.se/en/saq-grimeton-un-day-transmission-on-october-24th-2021/ The next transmission is scheduled to be on the mornin…
