Azimuth/elevation shadow map question

How many hours does a KiwiSDR session need to run in order for the Azimuth/elevation shadow map to display results?

  • If you leave a browser window open showing the az/el map it will update in realtime. The transparent cyan traces are applied as the current position of a sat changes. And this is completely dependent on the sat orbit. In practical terms you'll start to see the traces after several to tens of minutes. A sat will be "in-view" usually for a period of several hours or more depending on where you catch it in its orbit relative to you.

I used to have another map that showed the orbit "history" by leaving a little trail of breadcrumbs (if you will) behind the past positions as black dots for a fixed period of time (like 30 minutes to 1 hour). This is a common type of display you'll see with other GPS software. It's kind of nice because it gives you an idea of what the future orbit will be since the orbits tend to show a characteristic shape on an az/el plot.
