  • Trying to understand this noise

Some similar electronic smog issues temporarily here. One of the reason is the switching power supply of the internet router itself. How much one can reduce specific noise level in changing power supply towards oldschool linear power supply, anybody can see. However that kind of powering up devices does no more meet power consumption reduction regulations. On the other hand there are probably much more devices in use in the near neighbourhood, you do not have any influence of.

Best solution is a good antenna delivering strong desired signal strength and enough distance to electro smog producing devices.

BTW: In Germany the hams have to pay an annual extra fee for "frequency protection", "Contributions for spectrum assignment". 29,22 Euro coming up 2025. And if the noise gets too much, the authority (BNetzA) can called out for help.

  • Quiet switch mode power supply (SMPS) for KiwiSDR

Hello, interested on a 5V crowbar. Whilst using here an oldschool power supply .

9V/ 4A transformer 120 VA, 2-way-rectifier. 10000µF als load capacitor, power regulator IC UA78H05SC TO3 and mounted on heatsink 0.5 K/Watt with actual delivering 5.13V on output. Output capacitor 470 µF. However for some extra secure operation i am keen to get knowing which 5V crowbar design should be working as desired. Who can give me an advice, very appreciated.

    Thanks in advance!

Now working fine 24/7 with an 5V-IC featuring maximum 5 A in a TO-3 housing.

Unfortunately there are some fakes on the road, which disguise themselves in TO-3 housing, but never deliver the higher load current than approximately 1A. However you can easily sort them out by having a look on the mounting side. Some butterfly-like chip welding got the original ICs. This characteristic construction sign is valid also for other voltages e.g. 12V ICs as I could recognize.
