There have been other cases where the apparent public IP does not tie up with what the hostname resolves to, that is indeed a problem with no easy solution as sdr.hu is out of the control of the Kiwi designer. If you can't make sdrhu-registered.dom…

When I was using an active whip I found network cable with CCTV baluns either end was much better at rejecting local noise pickup. Another wierd thing I have just done is put network cable through 10mm copper tube and grounded that by burying it and…

For what it is worth just tried my Android phone, no issues seen. Might pay to clear the browser data and see if there are any apps affecting browsing. Is the phone fairly recent or a good few years old?

Wireshark it locally then, I often do that if I don't know the device IP address range, should only take a few seconds.

I am prepared to bet the Kiwi power goes too low momentarilly during boot, if you have a USB/portable scope watch the supply at power on both devices. Another option is delay the boot to say thirty seconds after link power on. Many of us have seen …

My Kiwi is in a different case type (old alloy hard drive enclosure) with the receiver grounded through the SMA connectors only, that would be a different beast as the path to ground (via 9 meters of 10mm copper and two 3/8" rods of about 1.6m …

Correct "crittercon" implementation is something sadly missing in so many projects. It's good the see John give the full treatment.

Ron's comment is worth looking at as power supplies that are a bit light (surge current) have been an issue here (detailed in other threads). The Ubiquiti kit normally has some pretty useful info so I'd look for the "stations" listed at th…

I'm sure there are many older supplies designed when compliance was "a thing", I've got a few that seem pretty good but I'm keen to find resonable current options for those people without decent "junk" reserves ;-). I hadn't trie…

OK so you spotted the Linear. I checked if these DC-DC where still about the same price (Banggood not Ebay, Ebay are expensive now) and they are a bit more expensive, if someone has £10 they could afford 20 (£9.87 - mp1584en x20), sorry to mislead …

Correction noted, so people are manually port forwarding 22 while credentials are at default, OK (facepalm)

Did anyone say Shodan? I am surprised that anyone would actually leave the Kiwi open via SSH intentionally with no security, that is madness. I expect the culprit is "Plug and Pray", if that is enabled through the admin option - "Auto…

Eckrot 5G next, 700Mhz, 2.3GHz, 3.5GHz, 26GHz, 60GHz, 100G+ once they get going. I know it shouldn't affect HF but sure as hell it will affect health, industry lobbying to the max. I'm sure one of the reasons they are pushing so hard on it now is th…

Definitely mains networking as Martin says, the notches should line up with HAM bands at least. In the UK Sky Q boxes are well known for it (you can turn the mains networking off but that does not disable the hardware so the issue stays.)

As a bit of follow up on the PSU I mentioned above (Nobsound 25W USB DC5V-24V Adjustable). I have found it is potentially dangerous as delivered to me. I was going to look how easy it was to disconnect the small fast fan as that is the biggest draw…

That sounds good, I was just interested if there was anything else loading it. I suppose something like a tiny Mikrotik router (E.G. HAP Lite) could be added to enable you have many more route options that can't load the Kiwi. I ran one of those off…

Just out of interest have you tried running a constant ping to the device? how do you get to the SSH? via a VPN or firewall that allows just one or more IP address? Is the SSH public port on 22? A few things spring to mind but the way you connect wi…

Ah to be in a location where I could benefit from such fine tuning ;-) My most recent test was to bury 10m of 10mm diameter microbore copper tube with CAT5 FTP external, nice and slipery pushed up the middle. I fed the end through the external wall…

Excellent info thanks, was at work and the idea came to me but I did wonder if it was an internal function not like a PLL. Ah so I have to use something like an SI570 VFO (I have at least one lying about) to create a signal then use the Kiwi audio f…

Sort of off-topic question, what is the highest GPS disciplined clock signal (or harmonic) I am likely to be able to sniff if I were to hold a coil close to the Kiwi? (if any) Reason for asking, I know the Kiwi frequency is very stable, can I then r…

I prefer to send the syslog output (duplicate) to a remote (linux) host, much easier to see how the process is going. On the remote syslog server something like "tail -f /var/log/messages | grep -i 'kiwisdr'" I was going to see if there…

Forced update, no issues seen here. To qualify that I'll set a short timeout and see if I can break it.

That made me chuckle "move the loop antenna 250 feet" within that distance here - 32 other houses. Has made a very nice difference though, well done.

Not sure I'd be able to test low down, something they do next door seems to set light to the lower end of the spectrum. Image below while fighting today's new raft of QRM. PA0RDT on the bottom, LZIAQ with bike rims top, without the ability to subtra…

How is your Kiwi networked? the standard repeating signal from ethernet is virtually everywhere. You could try a wireless (or fibre) bridge to the Kiwi and add distance from noise sources. Initially just try to turn things off see if the source is i…

I ran two on the same Linear PSU, the built meter read 1440mA or thereabouts, I left it at the lowest it would go *(Nobsound 25W USB DC5V-24V Adjustable). Checked it yesterday and one Kiwi SDR with a TP-Link mini wifi on the same supply was ~925mA I…

I have found the Kiwi running takes about 720mah here (5.V) I think that is possible on USB desktop ports of most versions (pretty sure 1A on desktops -500ma on laptops) but I'm not so sure about the requirement while booting. They do seem to like a…

On the list of request for when you grow an extra brain and a second set of typing limbs.... Would it be possible for the Y keyboard to have two phases when the Spectrum is enabled? Currently it needs two presses to remove the centre band/tag bar b…

Actually I'll probably retract this comment as there are as many guides to station grounding and bonding as there are countries and what is deemed safe on one earth system is not on another. The supply earth to station earth is something I consider…
