Just some follow up on external devices. Once it got a feel for the idle/working spur signature I tried to identify any specific in-house spurs. As expected, the cheapest CCTV devices are producing the most visible spurs (except for whatever the clo…

The size of the components occured to me, to be honest I didn't even think the socket was anything other than a connector. It was only after looking at Ethernet transformers and wondering what they had done after the nework chip here made me look. T…

Notes to date. External spurs are common so no fault of the Beagelbone, internally there sould be perhaps a single clock harmonic (repeating every 60kHz or so) and the amount of pick up on the RX side depends on how well the tracks under the BB and …

OK I might be over complicating this, might just be "DHCP enabled all the time", not respecting the admin interface static address. The rest (uncontactable) might be just a local issue with a rogue DHCP server.

Hi Rob, I want to try the USB dongle route but as many users may not want to dabble with Kernel upgrades I figured there was still mileage in reducing the normal Ethernet case. Here my $20 (for three wired devices) wireless bridge and decent earth …

Hi Martin, I had some difficulty making meaningful comparisons as I had to use another Kiwi in the plastic skeleton case and I hit a bigger issue (that I had suspected may have a bearing). The distance above a good ground has greater affect on the …

https://www.arrow.com/en/research-and-events/articles/wifi-on-the-beaglebone-black Couple of good points - spotted while looking for something work related. --later-- On reflection (on actually reading the post) just looks like it's referencing ol…

Hi Martin, Will have a look tomorrow. I've temporarly put the two Kiwi in a 2U aluminium rack case (from work scrap again) so everything is enclosed and grounded (via the SMA) and the top has to come off which is a bit of pain to change things. One…

With the Router (RB931) in the same metal enclosure as the Kiwi, wired, set to 10mb, there only poorly defined faint spurs. If the LAN ports are set to auto negotiation (100mb) there is an additional spur beginning to be an issue, if the WAN side is…

I did read that older thread, armed with that information, also due to other incomming noise, went short shielded CAT runs and fibre for any long bits. Issues here are mainly external to the Beaglebone/Kiwi, I can see at least nine off-set spurs at …

Doh, I'm bit slow today, might have been that forehead slap. -- For the record they have removed the numbers on the semiconductors, probably to avoid cheap clones...I think that is called being ironic.

Not sure if that is a question, the antenna claimed 0.1-30MHz so noise covering everything under 450kHz meant I couldn't see if that was true. It's not great now but it does have some reception down to 100kHz. I guess it is an easy way of allowing …

I just had one of those "Ah that explains it" moments Decided to try another PSU due to the LF "swtiching??" noise. Wired a lead from a 10V linear to Micro USB while thinking "do they really expect anyone to do this?".…

Been meaning to use Nginx for something else but couldn't find a good reason to spend personal time on it... Now I have the motivation, thanks.

Loop as supplied then 2x 960mm 6mm aluminium tubes I know not exactly what you asked but awkward spot and suspending it away from too much damp wood may have delayed it and risked the QRM noise floor jumping. Checked before and after (back to loop) …

I did look at that from your previous posts, I think the issue was motivation and steps, I didn't practice the steps because I didn't have an end goal in view. Might have to review if I can jump between.

I'm sure Santa is looking up the cost of drone strikes over the soutwest of England right now, poor bloke is on holiday and when not, focussing on other projects, but still people like me, will ask.

Hi Martin, Will do, probably tomorrow morning, the local noise is a more consistent before people get up. I might switch to 8 channel mode now and leave some WSPR going on it for the noise plots overnight. Regards Stu

Hi Martin, That sounds better, assuming the tags are all tidy, for some reason I make hard work of editing them quickly (must try harder, wonder if there is a good video on youtube..). It was mainly for channelised frequencies and was thinking in fa…

Hi Martin, It is a bit weird on the reception, once it stops raining I'll try assembling it in a clearer spot and test loop materials. You are probably right on the type, it's internally covered in black potting/epoxy so it's hard to identify much …

My MLA-30 arrived. So far Delivery - Fast considering where it came from Packing - Good. Build - Better than I expected Reception - (usual caveats for this place) Better than mini whip's, lower gain/noise so seems more useable than my ALA1530S, cou…

Has anyone worked out if having the Ethernet live at a hardware level (I.E. lights on) is what causes the spikes or is it adding a specific type of wiring that allows the low level spikes to be picked up? if it is wiring could there be a solution li…

I did try it using a high pass filter and simple t-piece. I generally have to reduce the signal from my active loop antenna anyway so figured it was worth a shot as I had the bits to hand. I know this is not really what you are asking but my experie…

Versions, Versions (131) https://wikidevi.com/wiki/D-Link_DWA-131_rev_A1

Filtered - 15W RS 449-770 or 212-7848 (plug/socket etc.) To be honest I only know as when work clear stuff out to make space I can't bear to see some things trashed and I have some filtered 9-ways from that box. I think the C is between 330-1000pF.
-
One other comment, the 15 pin D-Sub connectors can be purchased as "filtered" versions, the capacitor built in is less than Martin added externally though.

AFAIK power is always on the GPS SMA ~3.3V. If the connector/coax is not shorted (or open circuit due to a RP-SMA lead) it should provide power to the antenna without any extra steps. Stu

I'm not convinced about Singapore. I used ping and traceroute to find the path from the UK and from a machine in Singapore, from UK 200ms and from Singapore 3ms BUT both packet routes showed a common IP addresses in China (Alibaba maybe). It might b…

I still think logging to an external syslog server is wise too. If some activity managed to crash the Beagle it is easier to review the event if it is recorded elsewhere. As said previously, where the device allows, block at the router rather than …
