Unable to log into Admin menu since v1.81 [fixed: v1.82 reverts the v1.81 changes]

Hi John,

I have an Admin password set and now find that I can't log into the Admin menu since V1.81.

I just get a blank screen.

    Try clearing your browser cache. Perhaps with a shift-reload. There seem to be some issues with my latest cache-enabling changes. If it persists it would be nice to know what the browser javascript console says.

    I was able to load your admin page without problems, so it's not fundamentally broken.

    I tried Chome and Firefox and cleared the caches, but still no luck.

    It's not the kiwi server log that I need to see. It's the javascript console output most browsers will let you display.

    SMH, I made some changes to the extensions API and then forgot I had a customer of that API, namely the antenna switch extension! I probably broke that. That's what your error message implies Martin. I'll go look at this now..

    Serge and Ron, do you guys have the antenna switch extension installed? Ron must since the error he reported was the same as Martin's (Ron sent me a PM about this issue).

    Yeah, the antenna extension seems to be a red herring.

    I have pushed a caching change. Please rebuild and let me know if it changes the problem. So far I cannot duplicate the problem here, so this is a real debugging problem for me.
    Login to the Beagle, "cdp" and "up" to rebuild.

    Could someone try rebuilding again, and then accessing the admin page with the new "nocache" flag, i.e. "kiwisdr.com:8073/admin?nocache"
    Please let me know if that helps. For the 0200 UTC update I'll send a v1.82 with caching turned off, but I would sure like to fix this bug since I can't replicate it here.

    Okay, thanks for letting me know. Apologies for the trouble.

    I'm going to change the way updates are released. I'm going to find an easy way to make a "beta" version available for others to selectively test before sending a release out to everyone.

    Maybe you could just have several experimental kiwi's run a "bleeding edge" version by doing regular git pulls (and perhaps add the first 7 chars of the commit hash to the version string), and consider versioned releases a "stable" channel? It could potentially be an opt-in option for everyone.

    Daniel, that's a good idea. I've been lazy about not using git branches and that's already changed. I've got some extra units here and could make a public test unit available running the current beta release. The biggest problem with all this has been problems I can't duplicate here either because of subtle differences in my environment or whatever. I'll be really interested to see what this current problem is. I'm sure it will be another SMH (smack my head) moment. These things usually are.

    For anyone who's wondering: the little web server inside the Kiwi software has never sent the appropriate HTTP headers to allow the browser to cache content. So all the static content (images, javascript, etc.) gets downloaded over the wire each time you make a connection which is kinda dumb. Now it's not a huge deal because the audio/waterfall streams pretty quickly dwarf that amount of network traffic. But there are some new features coming which will depend on caching for efficiency. So I've been trying to get it to work. You would think it should be easy, but it's deceptive. Lots of corner cases. And if you get it wrong you end up with a situation where the browser has downloaded some of the latest files (e.g. javascript) but is still using cached copies of others that are out-of-date. And that can be a real nightmare to recognize sometimes. I'm almost certain a caching issue is responsible for the admin page problem.
