I registered my Kiwi online yesterday for the first time and would appreciate feedback on the interference, especially LW,NDB & MW frequency ranges. Kiwi is in Lowestoft, UK. I thought maybe an expert might know what the interference is caused by.

Thanks

  • Can you provide a link to your KiWi ?

  • OK found it

The rapidly pulsing interference is from one or more Ethernet data over mains powerline adaptors.

The noise band from approx 8.5 to 12MHz is VDSL Upstream frequency band U2

I'm not sure what the noise from 18 to 25MHz is, as it is being masked by the data over mains adaptors.

Try resiting your loop antenna, or rotating it to try and null out the worst of the noise sources.

Experiment by adding ferrite ring common mode chokes to the cables from your loop.

  • The noise centred around 500kHz, with narrowly spaced carriers, is from a switched mode power supply

You have occasional intermodulation products around 99 & 332kHz when the ADC is being overloaded and the Red OV indicator is flashing. Currently due to China Radio on 17765kHz, Talksport on 1053kHz and BBC Radio 5 Live on 693kHz.

Rotating the loop may help reduce the level of the strong MW signals, otherwise slope or notch filters may be required to reduce the level of specific strong signals.

Plenty of discussion about suitable filter designs can be found on this forum if you use the search box.

  • Seems your radio is offline....

  • Yes, my router has played up, I shall be changing providers, so it might be off for a few days, unless I can sort something out.

  • I would be more inclined to invest in a decent router / firewall.

  • I'm back up & running again now. I will be changing to a different Broadband provider in two weeks time.
