Name/callsign input field max length [fixed in v1.807]

edited April 3 in Feature requests

Hi, this can be set from 16 to 64 characters. It would be possible to reduce the lower value? (my suggestion is 8).

The second request, also of low priority but probably more complicated, is to insert the number of the currently used antenna

in the admin tab. Among several pieces of information in this tab that I do not understand, information about the antenna in use,

without the need to turn on the "user page" would be convenient - especially when all receivers are busy.

  • What's the use case for reducing it to 8? Are people abusing the 16 character lower limit in your experience?

  • Yes, there are those who abuse this field for a sort of shorthand communication among themselves.

If I could, I would set mine to 8 characters - most callsigns and nicknames would fit. Of course, I would also leave the choice to 64, someone probably has it set that way.

OK John thanks for the reaction, I know it's a marginal problem, but maybe it's about the location of my Kiwi, I often get visits from people from Ukraine and Russians - their invaders.

Please consider having an antenna tag on the admin card, more and more users have antenna switches, we would appreciate it!

Okay, I can do the 8-character thing. I just wanted to hear you thoughts.

Let me understand the admin antenna switch page request: You want an indication of which antenna(s) are currently selected? (including if all grounded and multiple if mixing is enabled). As opposed to only being able to tell by looking at the user page RF tab? This had crossed my mind some time ago. I spent this morning implementing that. I will have it for the next release. Unless you meant something different..

Selecting antennas from the admin page is a bit more difficult and I'd have to look at that if there is really a good use case for it. I would think most antenna selections want to occur while looking at the spectrum/waterfall/S-meter if doing antenna development/comparison etc.

  • Yes, it's just about knowing which antenna is currently in use on the admin page without going to the RF tab (which may not be available). I won't comment on mixing and grounding, because I don't have it implemented in my simple switch. Also, switching antennas without listening and viewing the waterfall/meter doesn't make much sense.

Now, after installing antennas and fighting my own interference, I find that I more often check only on the admin page who and what is listening, what the SNR, GPS, etc. When no one is there, I only go in and switch antennas, checking the system and propagation. Unfortunately, I listen less and less myself.

To sum up, for me a simple information (e.g. in the SNR line) like: "selected antennas are now: 2" would be enough.

  • Hi John, I will also send the admin password to support@kiwisdr.com, in case you need to check something with me. I will change the password at the beginning of May...

Question: I did a reset every day: realtime response histograms, clear list users and clean logs in the console - should I stop doing this for the time of your possible research? And is my deletion beneficial for Kiwi at all?

  • Good idea about adding the antenna status to the admin status tab. I'll add that. Right now I only have it on the admin extension tab, antenna switch selection.

You don't have to do anything special on my account. I will let you know if otherwise. Thanks.
