KIWI does not power on

This morning 15-9 I had some time to look at my Kiwi SDR Version 1 that suddenly failed on 23-8-2024. So far it has been delivering thousands of spots to wsprnet.org running from wsprdaemon 3.2.1 without issues.

I did a power cycle. It powered on, fan running, then powered of by itself after a minute or 2.

Pulled and reset power, no power on, fan not running.

Wallwart 5,22V no issues when measured.

Any suggestions what I can try next would be very much appreciated.

  • Thank you, the 5V IN is 5,5V and 5VE is 5,48.

But the 5V (coming back from BBG) is 0,82V

    3.3V is 0V

All other test points are < 0,1V

Beagle Bone with Kiwi SDR pcb removed starts up, blue leds flashing etc. fan turning.

    5V from BBG is 4,7V

    5VE from BBG is 0V

    3.3 from BBG is 3,41V

Looks like something shorted on the Kiwi SDR pcb ?

  • I had a similar problem when I changed my PSU to a cleaner linear one. In my case the problem is the KiwiSDR design does not like the supply ramping up too slowly so I fixed it by added a second power switch to the DC output of the PSU to use after the PSU had been turned on and ramped up.
