Debian 8.x to 10.11 (Buster) upgrade

Looking at this tutorial

Could I just skip the backup of the configeration and just flash the newer linux image and start fresh? Like with a new Kiwi.... I'm a bit confused, I only have one spare Micro SD Card ...
