Two phase software update?

Have the install check and update to a "Running" level software only at first boot, then have the option for "Current" release updates enabled from the admin pages.
That way the new user who may be more of a box user does not open the SDR to the rolling Linux unknowns of "as delivered" - "current" upgrade in one hit.
