  • v1.709/v1.800: help needed

Are there many Debian 8 units out there? You could always "force" the issue of users upgrading to deb 11. A pop-up when users log on that deb 8 is no longer supported and needs upgrading - if not for security reasons and at the very least as it's now a 10yr old OS. Likely be some short term pain while helping others out. Happily lend a hand to support people who might need hand holding for re-flashing.

I might seem a bit of a newbie on here, however I have been doing IT and support for 20+ yrs and can put my hand to most things IT related.

Ooh nice one! Thanks for all your efforts! Although I haven’t been here all that long it’s much appreciated.

  • Antenna Considerations / Do's and Don'ts

    Hi All,

I am considering my antenna options. While my cheap magnetic loop does a good job, there are many signals such as DRM that need a bit more gain - otherwise they simply don't work.

This seems quite reasonable for the price, an end fed long wire with a 1:49 balun. And covers 1-30Mhz.

What other considerations should I be thinking about before leaping? Attenuators, Filters, other options.

I have a reasonable size section (good old kiwi 1/4 acre). I also have access to a good sturdy pole, as we are a WISP here in the Hawkes Bay, and have some nice poles that can be mounted on a pad.

Anyway, looking for a little guidance to an age-old question. However, it does help when there is so much information and advice on the internet but no real clarity on what to use.

  • Impressive!

I've been using the HFDL extension, and yes, it's quite impressive. I spend a hour in the evenings scanning through the bands. Its good down time.
