Wonder what this is at 5300Khz? - its always there.
A quick update.
I received the DC power supply, gave it some tests and it seems like a nice stable 5.18V on the output.
I replaced the two Apple bricks, one for the KSDR and one for the Bias Tee, and connected them to the new linear DC supply, and from what I can tell, the "noise" is all but gone on that frequency.
Will monitor and report any additional findings.
Parts used:
- 13.8V 5A Transformer (From an old Dick Smith unregulated power supply.
- This DC power supply with a 5V fixed regulator.
- A dual USB assembly from an old PC
Left to do:
- mount it all nicely in an enclosure ;-)

Antenna Considerations / Do's and Don'ts
Hi All,
I am considering my antenna options. While my cheap magnetic loop does a good job, there are many signals such as DRM that need a bit more gain - otherwise they simply don't work.
This seems quite reasonable for the price, an end fed long wire with a 1:49 balun. And covers 1-30Mhz.
What other considerations should I be thinking about before leaping? Attenuators, Filters, other options.
I have a reasonable size section (good old kiwi 1/4 acre). I also have access to a good sturdy pole, as we are a WISP here in the Hawkes Bay, and have some nice poles that can be mounted on a pad.
Anyway, looking for a little guidance to an age-old question. However, it does help when there is so much information and advice on the internet but no real clarity on what to use.

Who you are, where you are and what are your KiWi's ?
I'm based in sunny Napier, Hawke's Bay, NZ.
I use my Kiwi to indulge my SWL / DX hobby. Nothing too serious.
I work in IT and have had a long interest in electronics and radio - which makes me sound like a complete nerd :-D
On the flip side, I have a youngish family (even though I am now 52 - I started late) and still listen to grunge.

v1.709/v1.800: help needed
Are there many Debian 8 units out there? You could always "force" the issue of users upgrading to deb 11. A pop-up when users log on that deb 8 is no longer supported and needs upgrading - if not for security reasons and at the very least as it's now a 10yr old OS. Likely be some short term pain while helping others out. Happily lend a hand to support people who might need hand holding for re-flashing.
I might seem a bit of a newbie on here, however I have been doing IT and support for 20+ yrs and can put my hand to most things IT related.
