NAVTEX Idea [DX log mode]

edited February 2018 in Problems Now Fixed
I see that receiving NAVTEX serves 2 things. The practical sense of what is the WX and I already used that to monitor Grayson but also for LWDX, which is less about content and more for who is the station. For latter, it would be handy to have a check-box option to only display the lines containing ZCZC as those lines give the station ID.

Not being into Navtex DX, I'm not sure what enhancements make sense.

  • I have been logging a lot of Europe from here in WNY
In the last 2 days, NAVAREA III Stations: C,G,H,I,U,X

  • Hi All,

It works well on the MF Navtex frequencies, but not on the HF frequencies where the message format seems to be different ?

I also don't know much about Navtex, I'm currently decoding South America and China, but I don't see any ZCZC strings, and I don't anything else that is obvious that could be used as a trigger for the DX mode on these frequencies.

  • I am doubting I got the area III stuff right.  Having a way to hard log would help!
  • Browser javascript is not allowed to write files on the local computer. About the best I could do is transfer the window contents from the page back to the Beagle, create a file there and then create a download link on the control panel. You would then download the text file and do a browser "save as" or whatever the default browser action is for text files. The is similar to what is done for the .png images of the FAX extension. Except there the image is created on the Beagle to begin with. So it seems that copy/paste is about the same amount of work for text.

  • doesn't java have LocalStorage?
  • The browser has all kinds of app storage mechanisms. But none of them are intended to be accessible outside the browser because of security problems. Chrome used to have a "file system" API, but other browsers decided not to implement it and consideration was dropped by the W3C. There are browser plugins that allow local file access, but I'm not going to do that because requiring user to install a browser plugin completely violates the Kiwi policy of "no software installation". Anyway, these plugins don't exist uniformly across all browsers which is even worse (support nightmare).

Something I'd like to know is if you can open a cross-document window in the same browser session that uses a "file://..." URL and pass data to it. Probably not I would guess. I bet you get a cross-domain/cross-origin access violation. The Kiwi server already plays some games getting around cross-origin problems. But the origin target is a domain URL and not a file on the local file system.

More than you want to read:

  • how about a way for local user to create log on BBG  and access via admin panel
