Tropical Cyclones and Propagation?

Over here in NZ there is a (ex-tropical) cyclone over the top of the north island.

It's currently around 7.30am here and normally the 40mtr HAM bands are non-existent, however today I am able to listen to a number of European stations.

Have there been any studies into the effects of these kinds of weather patterns on the ionosphere and radio propagation?

Could just be coincidence and today is a good day.

  • On April 16 there was a Kp8- geomagnetic storm which had a strong impact on propagation.

I've often observed that during geomagnetic storms the low bands stay open for a bit longer after sunrise.

"Tropospheric storms" reach to maybe 15% of the altitude of the lower ionosphere, so I would assume they have no significant impact.
