network problems

  • Thanks for update. My smaller problem here is: No acces to admin when Kiwi SDR more than 24 hours online. Even if LAN cut and directly connected to PC using local address:

"still remaining in determinating address. Try later in a few minutes."

After power cycling problem solved. However lists will be found as content deleted, and that is why I am no more able to check list of connections, who had used my kiwi last 24 hours.

  • I don't understand what you mean by "LAN cut". Do you mean if the Internet connection is cut but the Kiwi is still connected to the local network so that you can connect from the PC using the Kiwi's local IP address?

You will get the "still determining..." message if the Kiwi cannot discover its IP address. For example if it is configured for DHCP mode but there is no DHCP server. It is possible to configure a static IP address of course.

The list of connections (admin page, "users" tab) does not persist across restarts of the Kiwi.

  • Thanks John, Indeed. I unplug KiWi's ethernet cable out of the router. And me unplug computer's connection to the router, too. Then I connect KiWi directly to PC. KiWi is searching for correct address. Power cycling is necessary for new accessing. OK.

The only thing is, tried just now again, after longer KiWis online time over Ethernet no admin page access is possible neither by clicking the admin button on running KiWi SDR on browser, nor after closing the browser's window typing in address field xxxxx.proxy.kiwisdr.com/admin. (xxxxx stands for my kiwi)

After power cycling it works for a couple of hours. It seems not to be a real problem. This behaviour helps protecting for unauthorized access to the admin page after a certain time automatically, I think.

  • Connecting a Kiwi directly to a PC with a single cable, Ethernet interface to Ethernet interface has worked in the past. But it is not without problems. It depends on Windows behaving itself which these days is not a good bet.

  • Interesting. Did my Kiwi SDR keep online for 23 hours. The described problem (no accesss to admin page) did no more occur. However the log file time stamp starts approx. 02:00 UTC and all previous entries were deleted. Uptime displayed approx. 7 hours (indeed it was quite more hours online without any interruption of the local internet, as far as me could recognize.). And the browser's status notes "waiting", "reading page", "connecting" are so fast displayed one after another you aren't barely able to ecognize with your eyes. That was quite different a few days before. Those "status" messages were displayed each one afte another very slowly. I think problem solved: It was a general network issue.

  • I'd like to chime in here and say I have a similar issue, however I have put it down to my network. (even though I build networks for a living) and because I am too lazy to cable my house.

    The topology looks like:

[Garage] -- [KSDR] -- [Switch] -- [Mac Mini]

                                 |

                                  +-- 60GHz Bridge --> [Meraki Switch] --- [Meraki Firewall] --- [Internet]

                                                          |

                                                       [WAP] --- [PC]

Sometimes when connecting to the Kiwi from my PC the admin console will time out, and so did the Web SDR - but not so since update 1.8+

If I went into the garage and opened the admin console from the mac mini, it will open fine.

All the kit here is a mixture of Unifi, Cisco Meraki and Mikrotik (the link)

I've simply put it down to an MTU issue between me and the radio. If perform a "KiwiSDR server restart" it generally comes right.

I haven't changed any MTU settings on the Kiwi under network - I might tinker with those next time it happens. However, I would expect it to be always "broken" if it was an MTU size issue.
