KiwiSDR2 not connecting to network, cannot access

I'm starting to think that KiwiSDRs don't like me. I had two KiwiSDRs in the past but they both gave up the ghost for one reason or another (still trying to figure those out) so when the KiwiSDR 2 became available I jumped at the chance to get a fully-enclosed, ready to go device. Unfortunately, I'm having similar, but not the same, issues with this one.

Right now, if it does connect to the network, my network is showing that the device has chosen an IP address of 192.168.10.10 of which is not even offered by my DHCP server (it should be receiving a 192.168.1.z address). I tried forcing an IP upon it from the server but that didn't seem to do anything at all.

The little blue lights likely say everything I can't. The little lights rake back and forth quickly and then the light nearest the NIC stays on for a few seconds. Back to raking back and forth and then all four of the little lights start flashing like mad. Rinse and repeat.

Power supply is a Mean Well GST25A05-P1J that is putting out 5.14V, as per my meter, and is rated for up to 4A.

I messed with this thing when I first received it but didn't have time to troubleshoot it. I still don't, but I'd like to get it working anyway. It's been powered up and connected to the network for months without it even trying to send anything across the network.

Please help.

Please email your Kiwi-2 serial number to support@kiwisdr.com It's written on the bottom of the Kiwi case.

If possible take a cellphone video of the 4 blue LEDs doing their thing. Try and hold the camera steady so I can accurately track which LED is which as they change. Balance the camera edge on whatever the Kiwi is sitting on for example. And film for a good 60 seconds so it goes through a complete cycle of displaying the IP address. Email as above. Thank you.

And you've never got it to the point of connecting to the admin interface and changing anything on the "network" tab, right?

  • I'll send that right along.

Correct, I never got to the admin interface. :/

Okay, so the LED pattern is saying the Kiwi is configured to receive its IP address via DHCP (the default). But the DHCP server is sending an IPv6 address and not an IPv4 address which the Kiwi code requires. So see if your router has an option to assign only IPv4 addresses.

Also, with a re-flash using the Debian 11 image, there's a good chance the Kiwi-1's can be recovered. But let's get this Kiwi-2 working first.

  • Interesting. Is offering up an IPv6 address a deal breaker altogether? It should be offering up IPv4 as well. Let me see what I can tweak over here.

  • The Kiwi code simply looks at all the IP addresses assigned to the eth0 interface and tries to find an IPv4 address (there can be multiple assigned so that the interface can work on a mixed IPv4/IPv6 network). So see if your router maintains a list of all DHCP assigned addresses and why an IPv4 might not have been assigned.
