I'm not very educated when it comes to GPS stuff (I've read the KiwiSDR design notes as well as the website about the original GPS project that I think inspired the KiwiSDR implementation but that's about it), but I have a question. Does the KiwiSDR…
-
Yes, it's the standard GPS antenna with a built in preamp. I have actually tried three of them, one is the antenna that came with the Kiwi. I also have a 10 MHz GPS reference that I use with my netSDR, and the antennas work with it. So I think they'…

Yes, I just checked, 3.28 volts, seems close enough to 3.3 volts.
-
It's very strange, I am still getting just 1 or 2 satellites at a time. It started around the same time as the outage and recent updates, but apparently that was coincidental since other KiwiSDRs seem to have returned to normal GPS operation. I am r…

I am not sure if this is coincidental or related, but ever since this started, my KiwiSDR has been doing very poorly in the GPS department. Today for example I don't think it has produced a single fix since it rebooted overnight with the latest upda…
-
Not sure if this is related, but very few KiwiSDRs are available for TDoA right now. Mine was not appearing even though I had 29 fixes/min, although it just appeared now on the TDoA map. Still not as many receivers as usual.

That KiwiSDR/quadcopter combo sounds ideal for someone that needs to scout a neighborhood looking for RFI sources.

Thanks for letting me know about the change required, jeffreycentex. I just updated the code on my site.

This works perfectly fine for me, the pest has gone away. He may be bothering someone else, but there's a solution now. Thanks!
-
Thanks! The s meter extension is something I previously hadn't had the chance to try, I am playing around with it now, looks like it could scratch a few of my itches.
-
That reminds me of this video I shot of an LED connected to one of my antennas during a thunderstorm (sorry for the poor quality) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4KBTzwhyr3o

I fully understand not wanting to invest significant time required to make a substantially different version of the KiwiSDR that would be much more expensive. I don't know enough about the internal workings to answer this question myself, so I will …

I ended up using an iptables entry in my router to block the offending IP address.
-
Any way to block either a particular frequency or user by IP? All week, someone has been tying up a receiver, nearly all the time near as I can tell (from periodically checking), tuned into a MARS frequency. It effectively reduces my KiwiSDR to just…

I was eventually going to mention my virtual audio device client, jks, when I thought the code wasn't quite so ugly :) I think it should work on any platform? Although I have not tested it on anything other than my Mac. I wrote it specifically to…

It's already ended. Not sure if that is a good sign or a bad sign.

How about right now? https://www.massdrop.com/buy/seeed-kiwisdr-kit

I also have my GPS antenna inside, facing a south window. I found that placing it on a sheet of aluminum foil as a reflector helped quite a bit. Also the placement of the antenna is critical, moving it just an inch appears to cause a significant cha…

Good point, WA2ZKD. I may try that today, I want to install some ferrite cores outside and note the effects, if any.
-
Yes! The ability to do modifications to antennas/cables/grounding/etc in the field and see the effect in real time using the Kiwi is worth the price of admission by itself! It is a huge timesaver, vs running inside/outside continuously. Your comme…

I run my coax feeds underground, and have a similar grounding block set up at each end of the underground run. How much improvement do you note from the addition of the ferrite?

Right, let's assume I can put an accurate scope on the RF input. What's the largest acceptable peak value? Or even better, what's the maximum A/D count? (With a way to view it on the Admin panel)
-
Yes, that's exactly what I am doing, routing the audio to a specified sound output device. Thanks for the suggestion to use --resample, that solves the potential problem. I noticed the different packet sized depending on compression, and from tes…

No big deal as I've got it handling the filename format from kiwirecorder, which didn't take too long. Just parsing the data in a different way. Now that I have that working... I decided to do something I always wanted to do with kiwirecorder (onc…

Thanks for the info, very helpful! Yes, I suspect many apps expect there to be only one data chunk, not broken up between many metadata chunks. I know mine do  As long as the file name format doesn't change (and users don't rename files), …

One issue I have noticed, the fan is vibrating, making an annoying sound. Anyone else have this problem? I Fonzi tap every now and then fixes it, for a while.
-
Is there a way to see what the current maximum A/D input is? I don't believe so, but could this be added, perhaps somewhere on the Admin pages? It might be a useful diagnostics tool when troubleshooting overloading situations. Something that updates…
-
Let me chime in as being interested in being able to add markers easily via a csv or other file.
-
I'd like to second, or third, this request.

WHVR is certainly the strongest station on MW here. Before the overloading was pretty obvious, with images every 10 kHz all over HF (plus the red overload indicator on the KiwiSDR page) 9690 sounds like Radio Exterior Espa?a with possibly Nigeria, …
